Primary School in Vietnam Featured on Famous World Architecture Website
Designed by the Architecture Office 1+1>2, the creation of architect Hoàng Thúc Hào and his team, the Sentia Primary School project has been in progress since 2018. Located in Trung Van, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi, the school spans a designed area of 3,826m2.
Different from other schools in Vietnam, Sentia Primary School is designed asymmetrically and surrounded by building blocks. The school comprises preschool, primary, and secondary sections. The space within the school is not only divided into areas for different age groups but also includes a shared courtyard for everyone. To meet the requirement of maintaining distinctions between education levels while remaining unified, the school is designed with a staggered structure, with continuous spaces connected by a system of corridors and staircases between building blocks. Following this design, classrooms are positioned facing North and South, maximizing natural light and ventilation. The sports field, exercise rooms, and cafeteria are designed in the last section of the project.
Soft corridors and staircases create connections between different areas within the school.
With this design concept, the project serves as a representation of a child's development, accommodating various functions for children of different ages. Therefore, the starting point of the design is for the preschool level, followed by sections for primary and lower secondary education. The 5th floor is allocated for artistic activities, music, and experimental research. The integration of greenery in the building's voids, combined with a roof covered with a garden, serves as an effective solution for air purification and thermal insulation.
Another eye-catching element contributing to the vibrancy of the school is the window system designed with various sizes and colors. Children love these windows, and the heat-resistant design effectively prevents sunlight from entering the classrooms. In addition to the predominant bright white and neutral brown colors in the school's design, the color coordination of the window system, swimming pool area, sports field, cafeteria, etc., brings a lively and vibrant atmosphere to the school's appearance.
Moreover, the schoolyard located between the building blocks serves not only as a play area, allowing natural light and ventilation but also functions as an effective soundproof buffer. With the lush green rooftop garden and the green sports field, Sentia Bilingual School appears as a prominent green center amidst the high-rise buildings in the area.
