Quang Ngai to Have Over 7,300-Hectare Southeast Dung Quat Urban and Service Area
The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has recently approved the 1/2,000 ratio Construction Zoning Plan for the Southeast Dung Quat Urban and Service Area.
Specifically, the planning area covers approximately 7,345 hectares, located in the districts of Binh Hai, Binh Chau, Binh Tri, Binh Phuoc, Binh Hoa, Binh Thanh, Binh Tan Phu in Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province. It borders the East with the East Sea; the West borders agricultural areas and existing residential areas; the South borders the communes of Tinh Hoa and Tinh Ky in Quang Ngai City, and the North borders the Dung Quat Oil Refinery.
According to the decision, the Southeast Dung Quat Urban and Service Area is a region for urban, tourism, and service development, serving as the southeast gateway to the Dung Quat Economic Zone. It aims to develop key functions such as administrative services, finance, tourism, and education, with the nucleus being the administrative-service complex of the Dung Quat Economic Zone linked to the development of the new urban area, Van Tuong.
It is also a complex financial and commercial center linked to the development of the new Southeast Dung Quat Urban Area. The urban area will serve as a crucial infrastructure hub in the southeast of the Dung Quat Economic Zone and is strategically important for defense and security.
Quang Ngai will upgrade and renovate existing political and administrative structures to meet the future urban needs. There will be redevelopment and upgrading of existing residential areas, as well as the main roads and current transportation networks.
Coastal protection forests will be preserved, beautified, and combined with exploitation for tourism development purposes. Green spaces, promenades, and landmark landscape structures will be improved. Cultural works and historical relics will be renovated, expanded, and opened up to more natural access, enhancing public spaces for the residents.
The urban functions will be connected to green corridors in the North-South and East-West directions towards the sea. Flood-prone spaces within the urban area are proposed to act as water storage areas during storms and floods. In the dry season, these areas will serve as recreational spaces and urban public spaces.
Additionally, Quang Ngai will upgrade the Sa Ky port to function as a comprehensive port combined with a tourist passenger terminal. It will construct tourist ship terminals in Van Tuong and Binh Chau. Preservation and promotion of relics, leveraging traditional and indigenous cultural values, will also be emphasized.
The buffer zone serves as a green buffer between the Southeast Dung Quat Urban Area and the industrial zone to the west, playing a vital role in ensuring environmental factors for urban planning. Earlier on November 22, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1456/QD-TTg approving the Provincial Planning for Quang Ngai for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050.
