World Bank Approves Over 100 Million USD for the Construction of Hanoi National University

The World Bank has approved a financial package totaling 422 million USD to enhance the quality of three Vietnamese higher education institutions and support Vinh Long City in building resilience against climate change.

According to information from the World Bank, on the morning of July 1, Vietnam time, in Washington, DC (USA), the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved a financial package totaling 422 million USD to improve the quality of three Vietnamese higher education institutions and help Vinh Long City enhance its climate resilience.

The Vietnam Higher Education Development Project, supported by a 295 million USD credit, will contribute to improving teaching and research capacities at Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, and Da Nang University.

Through investments in modern infrastructure, advanced equipment, and knowledge transfer, the project will accelerate the transformation of these three universities into competitive educational institutions at the regional level with advanced teaching and research capabilities.

The construction project for Hanoi National University in Hanoi has a total budget of 125.18 million USD.

The sub-project of Hanoi National University, with a total budget of 125.18 million USD, includes 100.87 million USD from the World Bank and a counterpart fund from the Vietnamese Government amounting to 24.31 million USD.

With this credit, Hanoi National University will invest in construction across three areas with a total land area of 37.5 hectares within the 1,000-hectare campus: Constructing 18 buildings from one to eight floors with classrooms, offices, libraries, laboratories, central sports, and teaching and research experimental areas; building two wastewater treatment stations, yards, internal roads, and drainage systems.

The construction project is located in three areas of some component projects under the Investment and Construction Project (ICP) of Hanoi National University in Hoa Lac, including three component projects out of 23:

  • ICP University of Technology (Area 1), with an area of 8 hectares.
  • ICP Institute and Research Center Zone (Area 3), with an area of 6.6 hectares.
  • ICP Hanoi National University Center Zone (Area 4), with an area of 22.89 hectares.
  • The project will also construct two wastewater treatment stations as part of the connecting infrastructure to treat shared wastewater for the entire project area.
