Preschool in Vietnam Achieves Top Ranking in World Architecture
Bó Mon Preschool in Sơn La is a charity project built in 2018 and began operating in 2019. Initially, the school had around 70 students, belonging to the H'Mong ethnic group, with a single teacher deeply rooted in the local community.
Despite being completed and operational for a while, recent images of the Bó Mon school once again capture public admiration for its unique architecture. The school is nestled in a valley surrounded by the mountains of Northwest Vietnam.
The architectural team designed Bó Mon School with a blend of aesthetics, sustainability, and convenient, comfortable functionality. During construction, they faced challenges due to limited budgets and an inconvenient geographical location.
Classrooms, teachers' dormitories, and support facilities are separated by playgrounds. The center of the school is designed in an open style, serving multiple functions and featuring a covered area. The undulating roof, with two layers of metal to enhance thermal efficiency, creates a cool and shaded space for students to play. Overall, the school's architecture harmonizes with the surrounding nature.
The roof is designed to maximize natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting. Throughout the design and construction process, the architectural team also focused on the ventilation system.
Trees are planted at the entrance to greenify the space. Combined with the gracefully curving metal structure, the school possesses an elegant structure that blends with the surrounding hills. The architecture of Bó Mon School is simple, not only serving as an educational space for preschool children but also as a cultural activity space for the local community.
Fear of the Appearance of a Top-World Beautiful School
In a recent report on VTV4 titled "Fear of the Appearance of a Top-World Beautiful School," many locals expressed concerns since the appearance of this preschool. They worry so much that they check on the school every day.
Their fear is that the school might deteriorate, and their children would be left without a place to study. This school is like a dream come true.
"Since the new school was built, I only miss it when I'm sick. When I come here, if I see any damage anywhere, I report it to the teachers to fix it immediately. I don't want to see this school deteriorate because it's been so long since I've seen such a beautiful school. Studying here, the child learns to read, and knowing how to read helps them in many ways. Knowing how to read means a much brighter future," one local resident said.
Since the new school was built, the people from the H'Mong ethnic group feel assured to send their children to school, trusting the teachers to take care of them, stabilize their lives, and contribute to economic development. With a new school and new classrooms, seeing the radiant faces of the children, the teachers are even more confident in their journey to impart knowledge in this remote village.
It is worth noting that renowned architecture platforms like Dezeen, ArchDaily, Designboom, Archinect, and The Guardian voted for the 10 most beautiful new structures globally in early 2020. Bó Mon Preschool in Tú Nang, Yên Châu, Sơn La is the only representative from Vietnam to make it to the list.
